The Hiawatha House, high up the mountain above Sabbath Day Point, came about after Adele Carney sold part of the Sabbath Day tract to Minnie McCabe in 1908. A 1932 advertisement in the D&H Railroad Hotel catalog said the Hiawatha House has “modern improvements.” From 1945 to 1958, the property was owned by Louis and Helen Novotny and run as the Mountain Brook Lodge. Most of the guests were family or friends from new Jersey. Ann Dwyer, a niece of Louis Novotny and seasonal resident of Hague, recalls that the lodge had four floors and was much in need to repairs when purchased. She spent her summers there, and they lived on the first floor and fixed up the second and third floor for guests. They never did get to the fourth floor! In 1958, the property was bought by Sol and Irene Sadowsky and Sidney and Mollie Margolis and run as Camp Beacon. At some point, the property was essentially abandoned and locals loved to visit it at night to scare themselves silly. A recent owner had the building torn down in 2019.
