Hague Hotels

Rand Hotel

The Rand Hotel was located on Route 8, across from the present location of the Hague Community Center. We don’t know when it was built or how many guests it could accommodate, but we do know that the first proprietor was Hiram Rand, Jr. The building was raised in 1922 when it was bought to build the new Catholic Church and rectory. At the time the building was raised, the hotel was being run by Grace Clifton Renner and her husband, Charles. Grace was the daughter of Albert Clifton and sister to Bessie Clifton West. The Cliftons called it the “Hiram Rand Hotel” and it is believed that Hiram Arthur Rand, Jr. (1847-1920) built the hotel upon his return to Hague from the Civil War in 1865. Hiran was married to Lorena Densmore and they had two children, Arthur E. Rand (5/3/1868) and Iva Rand (4/8/1881).
